Our Journey

Foundation & Vision

The Liberia Economic Forum was conceived during a period of national reflection on economic resilience and sustainable development. Co-founders Alvin and Anthony McBorrough recognized the need for a dedicated platform where diverse stakeholders could engage in meaningful dialogue about Liberia’s economic future. Our inaugural discussions focused on post-pandemic recovery strategies, digital transformation opportunities, and strengthening public-private partnerships. From the beginning, we emphasized inclusive participation and evidence-based policy recommendations.

Building Partnerships

Our second year marked significant expansion in partnerships with government institutions, international development organizations, and private sector leaders. We established formal collaboration agreements with key ministries and began hosting monthly forum sessions addressing critical sectors including healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

Key Achievements

Launched the first exclusive Roundtable series with senior government officials and international investors. Established partnerships with major development institutions including the World Bank and African Development Bank. Created the Youth Economic Leadership Program, engaging over 200 young Liberians in policy discussions.

Digital Innovation & Diaspora Engagement

Recognizing the importance of global Liberian networks, we launched the Diaspora Innovation Series, connecting Liberians worldwide with local development initiatives. Our digital transformation workshops helped over 100 small businesses adopt new technologies, while our policy innovation labs produced actionable recommendations on governance reform and economic diversification. This year also saw the establishment of our first international office in the United States, strengthening our capacity to facilitate investment and knowledge transfer between Liberia and international partners.

National Economic Summit

Our flagship National Economic Summit brought together over 300 participants including President George Weah, international investors, and civil society leaders. The summit produced the ‘Monrovia Declaration on Economic Transformation,’ a comprehensive roadmap for sustainable development through 2030. Key outcomes included commitments for $50 million in new investments, the launch of the National Digital ID program, and the establishment of three new Special Economic Zones. Our women in leadership initiative also gained momentum, with 40% female participation in all forum activities.

Expanding Impact & Global Recognition

Today, the Liberia Economic Forum stands as West Africa’s leading platform for economic dialogue and policy innovation. Our influence extends beyond national borders, with partnerships across ECOWAS member states and recognition from international organizations including the World Economic Forum and African Union. We continue to evolve, with plans for sectoral working groups, enhanced digital engagement platforms, and expanded youth programming. Our commitment remains unchanged: fostering inclusive dialogue that transforms ideas into actionable policies and sustainable economic growth for all Liberians.
